Attributes of a Strong Minded Person

Don’t Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Yourself

Stop moping around and feeling sorry for yourself. Be aware that life is hard and can be unfair, and choose to accept it and move on rather than dwell on it. They take responsibility for your actions and come out of difficult circumstances with self-awareness, gratitude, and a lesson learned.

Don’t Give Away Your Power

Don’t use your strength to diminish others, understand that you are in control of your actions and emotions and don’t let it get the better of you.

Don’t Shy Away from Change

Embrace and welcome change into your life, no good ever came from stagnant water. Let fear motivate you instead of hold you back. Change is needed to be able to grow and develop, don’t shy away from it or you may be stuck inside the same box forever.

Don’t Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control

Take lost luggage for example, if your luggage gets lost on a flight that is not in your control. There is no way that you could have affected that situation, apart from not go on holiday – but that seems a bit drastic. Yes, it may suck that your stuff is lost…but it’s just stuff, it can be replaced. Don’t sweat the petty things, and don’t pet the sweaty things.

Don’t Worry About Pleasing Others

Being a people pleaser, or trying to dis-please others are both signs of someone who isn’t strong-minded. Be someone who is kind and fair but who also isn’t afraid to speak up when something isn’t right. Even if it may temporarily upset someone, be assertive and don’t be afraid to speak your mind – as long as you aren’t being hateful.

Don’t Fear Taking Calculated Risks

Always remember, there is a reason that they’re called calculated risks – the pros outweigh the cons. So don’t be afraid next time one comes your way, it may not work out, but at least you’ll learn along the way.

Don’t Dwell on the Past

There is strength in reflecting on the past, but you shouldn’t be weighed down by negative experiences or trying to constantly live up to positive ones. This takes up a huge amount of energy on things that you can’t change or go back to. So live in the now, and revisit the past occasionally.

Don’t Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over Again

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

It’s okay to make mistakes, just don’t keep making the same ones. Otherwise, you haven’t really learned anything from it at all and it’s just a waste of time.

Don’t Resent Others Success

It takes strength in character and mind to feel genuine joy and excitement for others success. Don’t allow yourself to become jealous and bitter in those situations. If they are willing to and have worked hard for their success, then they deserve it.
