Background and Education
Dr. Thimmappa was born and raised in West Virginia. She graduated cum laude from the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. From there, she went on to study biochemistry at Pembroke College at Oxford University before graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Biology from Brown University. Her education continued at Brown University Medical School, where she received her M.D. with honors.
Residency and Outreach
Following medical school, Dr. Thimmappa, was invited to join the Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Loma Linda University. While there, she was part of a surgical team of residents who provided international outreach to Nuzvid, India and Blantyre, Malawi through Operation Good Samaritan. During the missions, Dr. Thimmappa and team worked with local physicians to treat cleft lip and palate and burn care. She continues to participate in international medical missions.
Craniofacial Fellowship at Stanford University
In 2008, Dr. Thimmappa was selected by to participate in the Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at Stanford University. Completion of this program provided her advanced training in pediatric plastics, including cleft lip and palate, orthognathic, craniosynostosis and mandibular distraction procedures.
Honors and Awards
Dr. Thimmappa has presented and published on a variety of craniofacial topics including the management of micrognathia, mandibular and orbital fracture fixation, surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, and facelifts.
