Pediatric Plastic Surgery

altDr. Brinda Thimmappa—one of the few doctors offering pediatric plastic surgery in the Pacific Northwest—understands that it is just as important for children to feel good about the way they look as it is for adults. She has specialized experience working with pediatric plastic surgery patients to improve function and appearance for children who are living with a serious defect or abnormality.

Special Considerations for Children

It is important to keep in mind that children are not small adults. They are still growing in every way, and the long-term implications of treatment to children are different than with adult patients. Therefore, it is important that your surgeon have advanced training in pediatric procedures. And that’s exactly what you get with Dr. Thimmappa—one of only a handful of surgeons in the Pacific Northwest with pediatric plastic surgery training and experience.

Types of Pediatric Procedures

Most pediatric plastic surgery is reconstructive, not cosmetic and is intended to restore “normal” form and function to the areas of concern.  At Southwest Washington Medical Group Plastic Surgery, we are able to treat children with the following procedures:

  • Birth defects of the face and skull (cleft lip and palate, misshapen skull)
  • Birth defects of the ear (protruding or absent ear)
  • Birth defects of the chest and limbs (misshapen breasts, webbed fingers)
  • Injuries to the head, face, hands, arms, and legs
  • Birthmarks and scars
  • Burns
  • Vascular lesions

If you have a child who may benefit from plastic surgery, we encourage you to learn more about the options by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Brinda Thimmappa by calling 360.514.1010
