Ice Facial | Does it Really Work?

The ice facial, favoured by celebrities such as Kate Moss, is a beauty trend that I stumbled on by accident.

What is it?

There are actually different versions of this treatment, from full facial to spot treatment.

Full facial

The full facial involves dunking your face in a bowl of ice water. Full up a bowl of cold water and ice cubes. After that dunk, your face in for 10-30 seconds – depending on how long you can brave it for.

Spot Treatment

This is good for if you’re on the go. If you have an extremely red and pronounced pimple you can get a single piece of ice and wrap it in a piece of kitchen roll (a thin hanky or piece of fabric will do too.) Let it melt a little bit before applying it directly to the spot, hold it there for as long as you can but at a maximum of 1 minute. Once you have taken the ice off the spot, wait 5 minutes and repeat if necessary This will not only reduce redness but inflammation as well.

What I Do

I’m not brave enough to dunk my full face in a bowl of ice water – I get brain-freeze just thinking about it. I go through the same process as the spot treatment but instead, I rub the ice all over my face instead of keeping it in the one spot.

The best part about using ice on your face is that it can help combat a number of different issues, these include;

Benefits of Ice on Your Skin

Eases Redness

This includes sunburn, bad reaction to skin cream, or spots. If you have naturally pink undertones it can be a good way to reduce redness before applying make-up.

Tightens Skin

When it’s warm, our pores open. When it’s cold, they close. Ice can help reduce and tighten pores, giving you a smooth face. If you wash your face prior to an ice facial it can also help reduce spots, as the pores will close and there will be no dirty inside.

Fights Wrinkles

Ice doesn’t only reduce the appearance of fine lines; it can also help prevent them. It’s far better than spending money on anti-wrinkle creams.

Keeps Face Looking Fresh and Clean

Your face will feel a lot cleaner after it, and will help it look fresher for longer – this is because using ice can actually reduce the amount of oil your face makes. It can also hide a hangover by reducing puffiness in the face. Not only that but it will wake you up and give you the kick you need.

It’s Free!

Arguably the best part of the ice facial is that that you don’t need to pay for it. Simply put a few ice cube trays in the fridge and you’re good to go for at least a couple of weeks! I have spent far too much money in the past on products that have made my skin break out more. So it’s really refreshing finding something so natural and easily accessible to use.
